Farnham
Ages since last dogblog post, have almost forgotten how the blog works. But they say moving house takes its toll, here we are in peaceful Farnham, amazingly quiet in the Victorian cottage given the busy A31 is a stonesthrow away. Simpson already settled, no children or sulky Persian cat to get in his way.
Basic info: Farnham essentially Georgian market town although was strategically important in the 12th century, halfway house between London and Winchester for the King of Wessex – hence the castle overlooking the town, now a conference/training centre for soon to be ex-pats. Bustling town and quite a bit of traffic, but also lovely arcades and alleys, many of them cobbled. The cottage is 4 mins walk from the railway station (just the A31 to negotiate), and town centre 5 mins in other direction. The Lamb public house a mighty 30 paces left out of the front dorr, small park for Simpy about 90 seconds walk past the pub on other side of road.
Early concernes about noisy neighbours – 3 young children next door – not realised, these Victorian builders knew a thing or two about thick walls.
Lovely atmosphere around the town; art and culture at the Maltings just 2 mins from the cottage. And lovely villages/walks to explore, Muriel (old orchestra mate), Kate and their new colie Folly just a mile up the road.
And best of all, sister Caroline gave birth to Rose Barbara a couple of days ago – 9 and a half pounds, ouch – baby pics coming soon.
